Glenbeigh Festival
Glenbeigh Races September 1st 2007 – a furlong to run in the One Mile Horse Race and Danny Mullins is driving towards the finishing post, strongly pressed by Gavin Sheehan and Kate O’Brien. Three teenagers, who in years to come will be battling out finishes on some of the major racecourses of the world. The uniqueness of the strand races on Rossbeigh Beach, Kerry in the South West of Ireland is captured magnificently in this lifelike painting by Anthony Simmons-Gooding.

Thanks to the generosity of the artist, this painting is for sale to raise funds to help fund the Glenbeigh Festival and Races held in late summer each year. It will be sold to the highest bid received before 10pm on Friday August 22nd 2008. Bids can be made by contacting the Festival Secretary, Ciara Sweeney at 00353 868307154 (086-8307154)

Anthony Simmons Gooding: Biography
Anthony was born in Dublin on 10th of September 1937 and then raised in the Kingdom of Kerry. He spent his working life in business around the world. In 1997, aged 60, he decided to take up the painting, for which he always felt he had a talent, but no time to dedicate to it.

Although never formally trained, he had spent 30 years at business meetings doodling his colleagues’ faces around the table. This, added to his affection for the Kerry countryside, and has qualified him to concentrate on paintings of faces and places from the west of Ireland.

He has taken part in many shared exhibitions in London and Ireland. His first one- man show was at the Guinness Hop Store in Dublin (2002), sponsored by Tommy Hilfiger. These days he is kept busy supplying a growing base of private clients.

His work concentrates on the characterful faces that abound in County Kerry – at fairs, race meetings, cattle markets- and he is now expanding his subject matter to other parts of the world which enjoy similar characteristics he witnesses in Kerry.
